Case Study: Watershed Dam Crisis
Effective Collaboration in Crisis Management at
Chambers Creek Watershed Dam
Location: Waxahachie, TX
Material: 18” IPS 11 HDPE Pipe
Situational Analysis
On Friday, May 31, the Ellis-Prairie Soil and Water Conservation District and Ellis County’s commissioners court declared a “watch” condition for Chambers Creek Watershed Dam No. 10 due to excessive rainfall and ongoing rehabilitation activities at the dam. The elevated risk to the dam’s integrity necessitated vigilant monitoring and proactive measures to prevent a potential failure.
Collaborative Efforts
Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, Sovereign Pipe Technologies played a pivotal role in the containment efforts. After receiving a distress call from Core and Main about the severe flooding threat at the dam, Sovereign Pipe Technologies leveraged its resources to quickly mobilize a solution.
Execution
Sovereign Pipe Technologies supplied 2,000 feet of 18-inch IPS 11 HDPE pipe, facilitating a water bypass over the weekend to control water levels safely. This rapid response was made possible through excellent coordination with Core and Main and the logistical support provided by New Concepts Logistics, ensuring next-morning delivery despite the after-hours request.
Outcome
The collaborative efforts resulted in successfully managing the potential threat posed by Chambers Creek Watershed Dam No. 10. By Monday afternoon, June 3, the district and the commissioners court were confident enough in the dam’s stabilized condition to declare the “watch” condition expired.
